The Future by ATV

I had never been here before. A huge dirt track with jumps, bumps and lots of different zigzags. It was a perfect day, the sun was out and only a few clouds were floating above us. My dad and I were the only ones who went this time.
I have one brother and one sister; my sister’s name is Tara and my brother’s name is David. My Mom’s name is Nina and my Dad’s is Ben. I should probably mention my name too. My name is Nick and I am 15 years old. I live in Maine and hunt white tailed deer, race dirt bikes, and I also race snowmobiles.
Let’s get back to my story.
We were setting the trailer up when I noticed my friends Mitch and Chuck, who also raced. I invited them to go and watch the other people race until we were up.
45 minutes later we had to get our dirt bikes and line up at the starting line. There are bars in front of you so you don’t get a head start and they drop when it’s time to go.
When they dropped everyone took off. We went around the first corner and someone named John wiped out and hit someone else. It wasn’t a bad crash, so they got back up and kept going.
It gave me a chance to pass them and get in front. So I passed them and it looked like I was way ahead of everyone until the last lap. I looked back to see how big of a lead I had, but I had no lead at all now. Mitch and Chuck were right behind me, and I wondered how they had caught up.
This was very stressful because it was the last lap. I tried as hard as I could until I reached the finish line, and got first place!
When I got back to the trailer I went to congratulate Mitch and Chuck for getting second and third. The day was almost over so my dad and I went home.
At home my mom was cleaning and my brother and sister were fighting. I told them that I got first place, and they were happy too.
I should tell you about this country and how it has changed. The year is 2984 and there are lots of woods and small towns. Everyone decided to get rid of all technology except for phones. All cars and trucks run on water. There is so much forest because there is a rule now that if you cut one tree down you have to plant 8 more. I am glad that we have no technology because you’re outside climbing trees or playing tag instead of being on something called a computer.
A regular day here is fun because in the morning you do your chores and then hunt from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Then you have lunch and take a break. At 1:00 p.m. most people either race or go on a trail ride with a dirt bike.
To get back to my story, the next day I woke up, did my chores and went to hunt. You can get 3 bucks and 2 doe because there are lots more deer now. I have a secret spot up at the top of the mountain behind my house. It’s a long walk up but it’s worth it. When I got to my spot I sat and waited until I heard something in the leaves. I got my gun ready, but then a small rabbit jumped out from behind a tree.
About 15 minutes later the biggest deer I had ever seen came into a clearing about 25 yards away. I aimed the gun right at its chest and fired. All I saw after I shot was its white tail running away from me. I was so mad that I missed, and I told myself I would get him next time.
I looked at my watch and it was 11:30, so I headed back home with no deer.
When I got home my Dad said we needed to leave right away because the race started at 12:00!
So, we ran out the door and got to the race just in time.
This time Mitch and Chuck were not there. I lined up with all the other kids and the bars dropped.
The same first corner that John wiped out on, I had a worse crash because I was in second when someone hit me from behind. I wiped out and dirt bikes went over me. An ambulance came and brought me to the hospital where they told me that I had broken my leg and wrist.
In a way, I was kind of happy because I could finally rest. Plus, lots of people would come to visit me and see how I was doing. There was a bad thing about it too. I could not race or hunt for almost a year.
After a year of rest and people visiting, I was back on my dirt bike, and with lots of crashes ahead of me I kept on racing!
