IN THE SCHOOLHOUSE

Happy and Healthy

Here in Leverett, enjoying clean air, exercise and healthy living are very much a way of being. As a school, we recognize that a child’s physical and emotional health provides the underpinning for positive interactions and focus on learning.

The last few weeks have certainly been a weather rollercoaster, chilly one day, warm and muggy the next. In these conditions, it is often difficult for children to decide what to wear. If you are an older child, it is a rite of passage to continue to wear shorts even if you have to hide the resulting goosebumps. Younger children may long to wear a tank top or sundress, because they think of the schoolroom as a place that is usually lively and warm. Talking with your child about dressing sensibly can be a taxing conversation at best, but it is important, nonetheless. As a hiker and backpacker, I am very cognizant of the concept of dressing in layers. It won’t be long before you’ll see me in a fleece jacket, and as the winter cold moves in, the number of layers underneath that jacket will go from one, to two, to three! Dressing in layers can work well for children, too. It may be quite chilly as they head out to recess, but very quickly the jackets start to peel off as the children build up heat by running around. Having a sweatshirt or long-sleeved shirt under the jacket can be a good intermediate step. Your child may even want  to keep  a sweatshirt or fleece shirt (and  maybe mittens or gloves!) at school for times when the temperature drops unexpectedly.

Health concerns have also been prominent in the news lately. The outbreak of Enterovirus D68 is certainly concerning to all of us, and particularly to anyone who is working with children. This edition of the Friday Post includes a Fact Sheet from the Department of Public Health that contains information that may be helpful. You will also find a list of resources for both EV68 and for Ebola. While Ebola is not an imminent threat, the news and visual images from impacted areas may be very troubling for youngsters. The listed resources may help you in addressing your child’s concerns.

As always, Nurse Jill (Monday-Thursday) and Nurse Karyn (Friday) are happy to address any questions you may have. We are fortunate to have them on our staff!

Here’s to a winter of good health!!

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH

The search for the new Superintendent is beginning. As a first step, the search committee will need input from the school community regarding the qualities and skills of our next school leader. A survey has been created to gather that information. Please go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QSF762S    to view the survey which will take approximately five minutes to conclude. The deadline for the survey is October 25, 2014.

Thank you in advance of your efforts to assist in this process.

THE GREENHOUSE AT OPEN HOUSE

A great big THANKS goes out to the Johnson family (Jay & Grace’s family) for donating some “birdhouse” gourds, pumpkins, and flowers in time for open house!

Open house evening was a quite fun for me out in the greenhouse BUT next time we either need to put greenhouse higher up on the scavenger list OR I get lots of solar lights in future!! Yes, it got kind of dark out there, one family shined cars lights in to have a look around—silly me, I did not think to bring a flashlight to give a “tour” with!  Oh, not complaining, it was a great deal of fun

I will also be at the greenhouse again during the Harvest Fest this Saturday so please stop in to visit then as well! I am still looking for some fall flowers (mums, asters, etc) that we could plant along the south side to spruce it up for the Festival. Also a few corn stalks to tie up, a few more pumpkins and maybe a hay bale for added décor on the outside. Items can be dropped off anytime, inside or out, I plan to be there Friday afternoon to assemble and plant so…. We could also use some flower bulb donations to plant for next spring! Daffodils, tulips etc.

Hope to see more families on Saturday!!

EFFECTIVE LOVE SPELL TO GET EX HUSBAND/BOYFRIEND OR EX WIFE/GIRLFRIEND AND CURE HERPES AND INFERTILITY THAT WORKS WITHIN 24 HOURS. ALSO WIN LOTTERY POWERBALL/MEGAMILLIONS 100% GUARANTEED  Contact Doctor Odunga Michael at [email protected] OR Whats App/CALL +2348167159012 I got my ex husband back to me and also got fertile and gave birth to twin girls after 12 years of marriage. When I came online last year, I saw a testimony about Doctor Michael and how he has been helping people with marriage issues and I decided to contact him. We spoke on email at [email protected] and later he gave me his WhatsApp number which is +2348167159012. He assured me he would help me get my ex husband back after 3 years of no contact. Doctor Michael is the best spell caster I must say. My husband called me after 24 hours of contact. The third day, I received natural herbs for fertility and after using it, I became fertile and conceived. I and my husband reconnected, had sex and I was pregnant. Presently I am happy to say I am the mother of twin girls and this is ALL THANKS TO DOCTOR ODUNGA MICHAEL. I came online to say this: If you need help, I believe you are saved with this man. Contact his email at [email protected]  OR Whats App/Call +2348167159012 and you too will give a testimony too to help others

Going to graduate school was a positive decision for me. I enjoyed the coursework, the presentations, the fellow students, and the professors. And since my company reimbursed 100% of the tuition, the only cost that I had to pay on my own was for books and supplies. Otherwise, I received a free master’s degree. All that I had to invest was my time.

Happiness and health are more closely related than you might think! A healthy lifestyle can boost your mood and increase life satisfaction while a positive mindset can lengthen your lifespan and help you avoid unhealthy habits. Start by reframing your mindset into an optimistic and active perspective. Your diet, habits, and social network can also affect both your mental and physical health.
