IN THE SCHOOLHOUSE

Chess is Coming!

Last winter, many parents participated in a survey about after school activities. There are many students involved in different activities, including art classes at the LCA and Destination Imagination, so we’re going to focus on one additional activity for the remainder of the fall.

Drew Marcus, an LES parent, has offered to teach a beginner/intermediate chess class for students in grades 2-6. The classes will take place on Mondays from 3:10-4:00 p.m. at LES, beginning on Monday, October 24th and running through December 12th. There will be no class on October 31st (Halloween). The fee for the seven weeks will be $75.

This class must have an enrollment of at least four children to run, with a maximum of 12. If you would like to enroll your child, please call the LES office by Thursday, October 20th.

Coming Up…

The coming week is a busy one, and I want to take a moment to remind parents about the schedule.

Tomorrow (Saturday, 10/15) is Harvest Fest! You can start your day with the Fire Department’s Pancake Breakfast, enjoy the activities of the morning, including the birds of prey and the Book Fair, and wrap up your day with the 6th Grade Spaghetti Supper!! Come one, come all!

Thursday, October 20th       LES Safety Day

All students will participate in Bus Safety and Fire Evacuation Drills over the course of the morning. Teachers will prepare students in a developmentally appropriate manner, and we will be back into our normal routine by mid-morning.  It is very important that all children are on time that morning, so that the drills can start (and finish!) promptly.

Friday, October 21st                         U28 Curriculum Day

                                                No school for students

Going to graduate school was a positive decision for me. I enjoyed the coursework, the presentations, the fellow students, and the professors. And since my company reimbursed 100% of the tuition, the only cost that I had to pay on my own was for books and supplies. Otherwise, I received a free master’s degree. All that I had to invest was my time.
