Powerful Messages in Very Few Words
This week, our morning announcements have included two proverbs each day. Different cultures have different proverbs, although sometimes the message is the same in two rather different sayings. Here are some of the proverbs that I know, either because they are very familiar from when I was young, or because they have made an impression on me.
• Make short the miles with talks and smiles.
• A picture is worth a thousand words.
• A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. (Chinese)
• The lack of knowledge is darker than the night. (Nigerian)
• Two wrongs don’t make a right.
• The early bird catches the worm.
• Shared joy is double the joy, shared sorrow is half the sorrow.
• Even silence speaks. (Hausa)
• Wealth is both an enemy and a friend.
• Necessity is the mother of invention.
Sharing proverbs is a great way to teach a lesson and to understand the values of different cultures. Do you have favorite proverbs in your family? We will continue to add them to the announcements now and then, so let me know!

SNOW TOYS WANTED
Dear families,
When snow actually falls, the kids LOVE to build, dig, shovel, and create. If you have any beach buckets and shovels, castle or block makers, etc., please send them to school for use at recess. Also, if you have an extra snow shovel, we’ll take that too! The kids love to shovel paths and clear the structure, and just get large-muscle workouts with shovels.
Thank you very much, The Recess Teachers
We are Collecting
Gift Wrap & Paper Towel Tubes!!
The LES Library is collecting giftwrap tubes and/or paper towel tubes to use at the MCBA Books In Action party in March! Please send them in to school any time. Thank you!
