Essential Skills Identification Process
We administer the Aimsweb Universal Screener three times a year for all students. This tool is used throughout the year to monitor student progress for students receiving Essential Skills/Intervention Services. Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment, which measures reading decoding and comprehension skills of reading fiction and non-fiction texts, is also administered three times a year. Throughout the year, teachers administer formal and informal assessments based on grade level curricula. All of these assessments are used to identify student needs. Essential Skills services are offered in 6-8 week intervals. Progress monitoring tools are used to determine beginning and discontinuation of services.
Areas for Identification:

Through collaboration with the classroom teacher, areas of weakness for individual students are identified. Next, an instructional program to address individual student’s needs is implemented.
